The university has conducted pioneering research to understand and address the special health problems of Central California’s children. That foundational work provides insights about how best to enhance the university’s Central California Children’s Institute. The Institute will have the research firepower and the community linkages in place to help guide doctors and other health professionals as they grapple with children’s health issues.
The university’s existing Health Policy Institute will also be expanded. It will broaden its research efforts, produce students to address regional health problems, and maintain health data on the region. Its research is critically needed as doctors and hospitals join with social service agencies to improve area health care.
