Christopher Lieder

Student, Engineering Major

Christopher Lieder believes that being a Husband-Boeing Honors Scholar already has opened a door for him. Lieder, a mechanical engineering major, had already lined up a summer internship with a Selma firm before he finished his junior year in Spring 2009. He believes his scholar designation helped seal the deal.

He is one of five Fresno State students who, in 2008-09, completed the program's inaugural year in the School the College of Engineering. The scholarship was named by Boeing in honor of Col. Rick Husband, an engineering alumni and commander of the space shuttle Columbia that disintegrated upon re-entry in 2003. Lieder says he appreciates how the program has exposed him to project work and hands-on experience.

"It's been a great opportunity," Lieder says. "And, it's given me confidence."
