Madden Library Taking Shape

Madden LibraryWork on the $105 million expansion of the Henry Madden Library continues as construction crews poured concrete for the first floor on July 16. Work on the framing and flooring of the four-story structure will continue through the summer, while installation of the prefabricated concrete walls will begin in the fall. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2008.

The upgraded library will ease a space crunch through the addition of 3,600 reader stations, room for new and expanded special collections, and individual study carrels. There also will be group study rooms and office space for the library administration and for services for students with disabilities. The mammoth remodeling and expansion project also will allow library staff to introduce state-of-the-art information technology systems and to rethink how library collections and services integrate within the larger framework of the campus.

The Madden Library is the largest academic library between Sacramento and Los Angeles. When it is completed, it will be the largest in the CSU system. To view a construction webcam, visit www.csufresno.edu/library/webcam.shtml.
