The Center for Civic Engagement and Service Learning
Non-profit and government organizations and schools received the equivalent of more than $10.4 million worth of manpower through the community service efforts of Fresno State students during the 2005-06 academic year. About 6,300 students participated in organized community service-learning.
Fresno State is a leader in the service-learning field, offering over 150 service-learning course sections each year. A featured speaker was Leslie Gacad, an American Humanics student who is now working on her graduate degree in Social Work. In addition to serving as one of only five student members nationwide on the 2007 American Humanics Management Institute Advisory Council, she also devoted over 1,400 hours to improving local housing conditions, primarily through Habitat for Humanity.
