Educational Doctoral Program is first in CSU
Fresno State’s educational leadership doctorate has received final approval from CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed and becomes the first stand-alone doctoral program in the 23-campus system. Additionally, two joint doctoral programs – criminology, in partnership with UC Davis, and physical therapy with the University of California, San Francisco – have been approved for 2008.
The educational leadership program was previously offered as a joint doctorate with UC Davis. In the past 15 years, 104 degrees were conferred on future educational leaders in the central San Joaquin Valley. The independent program is significant because of the scarcity of highly qualified education leaders in the region.
The new program will separate tracks for pre-K-12 education and post-secondary (community college and higher-education institutions). Admission will be open to 24 students per year, double the size of previous cohorts admitted annually to the joint program.
